Under increased international requirements for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving the energy efficiency of maritime transport, the analysis of operational parameters affecting fuel consumption and propulsion performance has become particularly important. Propeller slip, as a parameter characterizing the losses in the conversion of rotational motion into useful thrust, is directly related to the vessel’s speed, main engine power and fuel consumption. The propeller slip increasing leads to higher loading of the propulsion system and a reduction in the ship’s energy efficiency. Simultaneously, the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI) represents a key integrated parameter for assessment of the ship’s energy efficiency under real operating conditions, in accordance with the requirements of the International Maritime Organization. The interrelation between propeller slip and EEOI, established through a mathematical model, demonstrates the practical application of the considered parameters. This approach can serve as a basis for evaluation, analysis, and decision-making by the ship’s command and engineering management, with the aim of optimizing operating conditions, reducing fuel consumption, and improving overall voyage efficiency.
